Dutch Retailer Albert Heijn Unveils Delivery Robot

Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn has unveiled its new delivery robot at the Digital Food 2019 conference, put on by multimedia and news platforms Emerce and Foodlog.

The event, held on 26 March in Amsterdam, featured more than 30 international speakers and focused on the upcoming digital and technological advancements in the food industry.

Working Undisturbed

The retailer said in a statement that the robot will work with customers as part of a pilot programme at High Tech Campus Eindhoven throughout the summer.

Visitors will be able to place orders on the AH To Go app, and the robot will deliver the items to the shopper's location.

Albert Heijn commented, 'This way, you can continue working undisturbed while lunch is arranged for you."

The robot is developed by Swiss company TeleRetail and makes use of a virtual map to chart its course. It is also equipped with sensors to make sure that the robot doesn't bump into any obstacles on its delivery runs.
