E.Leclerc Launches Online Optician Store

French retailer E.Leclerc has launched an online store selling contact lenses.

The site offers all major brands of contact lenses and care products 'at very competitive prices', according to E.Leclerc, with a price differential of up to 30% compared to other specialist stores.

Each lens sold on the web site is listed by lot number to ensure traceability of products supplied and sold. Before any purchase of lenses, the customer must certify that he consulted an ophthalmologist.

According to the retailer, while 3 million French people now wear contact lenses, more than 51% of contact lens wearers feel that lenses are more expensive than glasses. 'The price is the main cause of discontinuation of lens wear', according to E.Leclerc.

The site offers customers either free delivery in the nearest E. Leclerc store or home delivery.

The new website complements some 69 E.Leclerc Optical outlets already present throughout France and 190 drugstores. E.Leclerc began selling OTC products in the early 1980s.
