Italy To Get Food-Themed Amusement Park

The world’s biggest food-themed amusement park is set to open in Italy this week.

Located on an area of 10 hectares on the outskirts of Bologna, Fico Eataly World follows an investment of €120 million and four years of work, reports daily La Repubblica. It is set to be opened by Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni this Wednesday, 15 November.

The creator of the project is Oscar Farinetti, the man behind the Eataly food emporium, and the project was financed by institutional investors (pension funds and cooperatives).

Competition

Fico Eataly World is set to be bigger than a planned park in Lyon which will open in 2019. The Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie, worth €240 million aims to make the French city the world's gastronomy capital.

Fico's stated goal is to accommodate four million visitors in the first year, reaching six million in the third.

According to Eataly World CEO, Tiziana Primori, more than 150 Italian companies are to be represented at the location.

In addition to eating (45 dining outlets headed by famous chefs), and buying (90,000 square feet of bazaars plus 40 shops) visitors will be able to get acquainted with the whole food production process across six production lines, from the field to the plate - meat, eggs and fish; dairy; cereals; fruits and vegetables and conserves; drinks & condiments; and sweets.

Forty artisan workshops will enable visitors to follow the processing of pasta, cheeses, salami and all the well-known Italian specialties.
