Edeka Launches Healthy Eating Programme For Children

The Hamburg-based Edeka Foundation has launched a new 'Move More, Eat Better' healthy eating programme for primary school children.

The programme, which kicks off at the start of the 2013/14 school year in 160 German primary schools, focuses on the topics of 'diet', 'exercise' and 'responsibility'. According to Markus Mosa, Edeka Foundation CEO, 'great demand' from schools encouraged the retailer to launch the project, which has been designed to be 'age-appropriate'.

Edeka worked with conservation organization WWF on developing the programme strand on the theme of responsibility, with topics such as sustainable fisheries under focus.

The retailer has been involved with a vegetable growing project for children since 2008. 1000 kindergartens and daycare centres in Germany have been equipped with the training, seedlings and materials required to create raised vegetable beds.
