Eroski's Online Platform Given A Major Update

Basque retail cooperative Eroski has given its online shopping service a total revamp to bring it up to date.

Eroski launched its online shopping service back in 2000, and earlier this week, the retailer said it was time to adapt the service to new times in order to improve the shopper experience.

The director of the online business of the cooperative, Mari Mar Escrig, explained some of the changes made in the update calling the revamp a "new online supermarket adapted to the needs of today's consumer where they can buy from any device Without the need to download an app, with purchase facilitators [...] and with filters deployed to easily locate the products"

Escrig also said that the online service offered the same price and promotions as the bricks and mortar store. Eroski online shoppers can choose from over 15,000 food references which could be delivered to the customers home for a charge or could be made available from one of their 33 Click & Collect points with no extra charge.

Eroski stated that by offering omni-channel shopping it can improve customer satisfaction and with it, customer loyalty.

Selling Fresh Online

"More than 80% of the orders in the online supermarket of Eroski contain some fresh product," Escrig explained. This, the retailer says is well above the sector average.

"By guaranteeing the quality of the product [...] but also by giving you the possibility to customise the purchase of the fresh product with preparation notes that allow you to specify the type of cut of the meat or fish, or the degree of ripeness of the fruit, for example [...] to select the fresh ones as if the customer himself did it," is how Escrig explains Eroski's approach to maintaining customer confidence in its fresh selection online.
