Eroski's Commitment To Local Sheep Cheese Producers Is Paying Off

Basque retail chain Eroski has increased its purchases of sheep cheese from the local region of Idiazabal by 235% over the last three years. The group's purchases of the product exceeded 46,000 kilos in 2016.

Eroski says the increase is largely due to an agreement with the Idiazabal cheese pastors association to market its cheeses under Eroski's Seleqtia own brand.

"It is [...] a first-class product and guaranteed quality that consumers appreciate, as the figures show," said Asun Bastida, Eroski's commercial director for local products.

Eroski says it is committed to working with local producers on the promotion and development of sheep's milk cheeses. The group is working with the Basque government and INTIA-Reyno Gourmet, a public body of the Government of Navarra, to boost the development of the local agri-food sector and the diversity of its agri-food industry.
