Esselunga Opens New Superstore In Bergamo

Italian grocery retailer Esselunga has opened its third supermarket in the city of Bergamo and its sixth in the Lombardy region.

The company invested around €18 million in the new store, which is located in the Celadina quarter of Bergamo, according to local daily L’Eco di Bergamo.

The superstore has a total of 2,500 square metres of retail space, with parking for 800 cars on two floors, and employs 126 staff.

Store Features

The new store features all the departments that have contributed to the success of the Esselunga brand, including a fruit and vegetable section with over 500 products, a fishmongers, butcher, and a wide assortment of wines with over 600 labels.

In addition, there is also a specialised bakery, offering 19 varieties of freshly baked bread, plus a wide range of pizzas and buns.

At the checkout counters, Esselunga has installed self-scanning and self-payment cash tills.

With the latest opening, Esselunga now has 157 stores, mostly in Northern Italy. Three other stores have been opened in 2017 – Roma Prenestino, Novara Veveri and Verona Fiera.
