Esselunga Opens 'Store Of The Future' In Milan

Italian supermarket chain Esselunga has opened a state-of-the-art store in Milan, which implements a number of sustainability initiatives and technological innovations.

The new outlet, located in Viale Famagosta, has implemented a network of 5,000 digital sensors to monitor energy consumption, and reduce CO2 emissions.

It also aims to cut down energy consumption by around 20% when compared with a traditional store.

The supermarket is spread across a commercial area of 2,500 square meters, on two floors, with class A energy certification.

It also has covered parking space for around 540 vehicles.

Designed by Studio Nonis, the new store features the Bar Atlantic, already present in 92 other Esselunga stores.

Other novelties include co-working stations - which will be available for reservation via the Nibol app - and a wide range of takeaway food items.

The store offers more than 500 products in the fruit and vegetable section, as well as dedicated sections for fresh fish, and meat.

The bakery offers around 20 varieties of freshly baked bread, throughout the day, as well as a wide range of pizzas and focaccia breads, and a new Elisenda pastry shop.

The checkout counters are equipped with modern self-scanning and self-payment cash-desks, with readers, to streamline the payment process.
