Exporter Pamplona First To Use Brazilian Pork Seal

Pork producer Pamplona, with headquarters in the southern city of Rio do Sul, has become the first company to be permitted to use the Brazilian Pork seal, maintained by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA, in Portuguese).

With the approval, the company aims to increase its sales to Japan, a traditional importer of Brazilian chicken meat that has just recently opened its doors to pork produced in the South American country.

To use the seal, Pamplona had to meet all the requirements established by the Brazilian Pork Sectorial Project and pass a careful evaluation of more than 70 criteria related to food quality, animal welfare, control, sanitary parameters and environmental management.

"The meat produced by Brazil already has an excellent perception of quality by the Japanese consumer. In this context, the beginning of the application of the Brazilian Pork seal should be favoured by an advertising campaign that we are conducting in Tokyo, highlighting the quality and sanitary status of Brazilian poultry and pork production," said chief executive of ABPA, Francisco Turra.

The Brazilian Pork Seal is part of a project led by the ABPA, the largest meat industry representative in Brazil. To grow exports for the segment, ABPA has launched the Brazilian Pork Project, which includes international negotiations, events, the opening of markets, trade defence and other initiatives, such as the quality label.

The 130 member companies of the ABPA are responsible for over US$ 10 billion in exports of chicken and pork, a growing market in Brazil.
