Aldi Denmark Removes Plastic Screw Caps From Own-Brand Milk

Aldi Denmark has announced that it has removed plastic screw caps from its private-label milk and cream packaging.

The move will help the company in reducing its annual plastic consumption by 25 tonnes.

Aldi Denmark's CSR head, Katrine Milman, said, "In Aldi, we have for a number of years been helping push for certification and sustainable production."

'Step In The Right Direction'

"By removing the plastic screw caps, we take another step in the right direction," she added.

The retailer has also introduced a thicker and significantly more durable bag in fresh colours made of recycled plastic.

The recyclable bag, which can be re-used several times, is a good alternative to single-use plastic carriers.

Sustainable Alternatives

Milman said, "Although we already offer other alternatives to the plastic bag, we have just introduced new and better bags made from recycled plastic."

"It is important that we focus on reusing the plastic that has already been produced and recycled so that we do not fill the market with new plastic products," she explained.

A McKinsey report, published in January of 2019, has highlighted several economic and environmental benefits of collecting and recycling plastic.
