Asda Recalls Own-Brand Curried Chicken Snack

Asda has issued a precautionary product recall on its 150g 'Chosen By You' Curried Chicken Snack packs, owing to the detection of Listeria monocytogenes in the product by the UK's Food Standards Agency (FSA).

Packets affected by the recall feature a date code of 'Use By 17 Jul 2013'. No other Asda products are thought to be affected.

Listeria can cause illness in certain groups of people, such as pregnant women, unborn and newborn babies, or anyone with compromised immune systems, such as the elderly.

According to the FSA, the annual number of laboratory-confirmed cases of Listeriosis more than doubled from 114 to 234 cases in the UK from 2000 to 2009. In 2012, there were 184 laboratory-confirmed cases, with the disease costing the UK economy an estimated £245 million annually.
