AsdoMar Most Sustainable Canned Tuna in Italy

AsdoMar is the most sustainable canned tuna brand in Italy according to the 4th edition of the sustainability survey by Greenpeace Italia.

The survey evaluated 11 of the most common canned tuna brands on supermarket shelves, which represent about 80% of the Italian market.

Five criteria were analysed: acquisition policy, fishing method, tuna species, information provided to consumers and social responsibility.

Compared to the previous survey in 2013, many of the producers have been supportive of sustainable fishing and full transparency, although there are still those who continue to be completely dependent on “destructive fishing”, claims Greenpeace Italia.

First-placed AsdoMar has the most sustainable canned tuna and has been defined as “always attentive to environmental issues”, offering a wide range of sustainable products.

Six brands are located in the middle of the ranking, as they still lack a couple of steps before becoming fully sustainable. Placing from second to seventh place are Esselunga, Conad, Rio Mare, Coop, Nostromo and Carrefour.

Bottom of the sustainability list are four brands: MareBlu, Mareaperto, Lidl and Auchan.
