Bakkavor Proposes To Close Alresford Salads Factory

Prepared foods manufacturer Bakkavor Group has announced plans to close its Alresford Salads factory in the Hampshire district of England.

The decision, which puts around 100 jobs at risk, comes after the company lost business from one of its key customers, it said.

'Different Economic Landscape'

COO of Bakkavor UK, Mike Edwards, commented, “As with businesses all over the UK, we are having to adjust our operations to a very different economic landscape, and this, unfortunately, involves the proposed closure of Alresford Salads.

“We will be working closely with employee representatives throughout the consultation process and fully appreciate that this is a difficult time for everyone concerned.”

He also added the decision does not reflect the commitment and dedication of the employees of the factory.

Bakkavor stated that the closure of the site has no connection to the ongoing work with the Environment Agency.

In June of this year, the company proposed the closure of one of its salads factories in Spalding.

Social Commitment

Bakkavor acquired Alresford Salads in 2000 and has since implemented several measures to support the local community in the town.

The company was the main sponsor of the Tichborne Park Cricket Club for a decade.

It has also worked closely with local schools to raise awareness about healthy eating and supported events such as the Watercress Festival and the Alresford Music Festival.
