Carrefour's New Cornucopia Of Fruit And Vegetables

This summer, France has produced an extraordinarily large volume of fruit and vegetables, and Carrefour is set to capitalise on the spoils that the weather has afforded farmers.

The increase in production is about 30 per cent on the last number of years. Bodies representing peaches and nectarines, tomatoes and cucumbers, and melons, respectively, will be associated with the Carrefour logo for the first time. Specific labels will be created to indicate that the goods are France-produced, and from what département in the country they originate.

The operation is estimated to involve 200 tonnes of supplementary fruit and vegetables.

The president of the Appellation d'Origine Protégée for peaches and nectarines, Bruno Darnaud, spoke of the organisation's new deal with Carrefour. "This undertaking, led by Carrefour, is, of course, of great interest for our profession, as it is very significant for our commercial needs. This summer produce represents a coup for us, and we must take advantage of the moment. We are attempting to act in a spirit of mutual interest for everybody."
