Carrefour To Roll Out Sustainably Grown Potatoes

French retailer Carrefour has announced that it is to launch potatoes grown using sustainable farming methods in October across the country.

The potatoes, grown without the use of pesticides, will be a part of the Carrefour Quality Line.

Carrefour has ensured that the potatoes are sourced from suppliers using farming methods which preserve the soil and protect the ecosystem around it.

Switch To Agro-Ecology

The move is part of the retailer’s pledge to phase out the use of synthetic pesticides in fruit and vegetables and switch to agro-ecology for all Carrefour Quality Line products by 2025.

In 2019, Carrefour offered more than 18,000 tonnes of sustainably grown fruit and vegetables, such carrots, leeks, apples, kiwis, and squashes.

The retailer is also working hand-in-hand with more than 60 French producers and 18 suppliers to source healthy, high-quality products that are eco—friendly.

Since 2014, it has also improved its production lines to help partner producers to move to agro-ecology.
