Driscoll's Spins The Blackberry Season Around

Driscoll’s is committed to growing only the finest berries. Family-owned and operated for over 100 years, berries are the company's main specialist area. With this in mind, this year's Dutch blackberry season has just started, offering big, beautiful and delicious blackberries!

Berry company Driscoll’s kicked off the Dutch season by taking the successful variety Driscoll’s® Victoria™ to the glasshouse. Thanks to its innovative growing techniques, the berry company is able to produce berries with an exceptional taste and outstanding fruit size.

Driscoll’s growers Jan and Alfons Diepstraten, of growers association Best of Four, use special assimilation lights and LED when growing their berries.

“The first season’s pick of our glasshouse blackberries is already looking very promising," says Diepstraten. "Last year, we experienced how huge and sweet these blackberries are, and that is why we decided to expand our production to four glasshouses, with a total of 11 hectares. Assimilation lighting is used by many growers, but we are the very first blackberry producers that are combining it with LED. This results in plants that are producing more flowers than normal.”

Blackberry variety Driscoll’s® Victoria™ is the result of Driscoll’s own unique breeding programme, focusing on taste, appearance and shelf life. This successful variety performs even better in the protected environment of a glasshouse, which produces berries that are bigger, sweeter and juicier than before.
