Early Asparagus Season For UK

Due to an unusually warm spring, the UK's asparagus season is starting early this year.

With temperatures that would be expected around August, fruit and vegetable producers in the UK have been  presented with exceptional conditions, reports the Daily Mail.

Locally grown asparagus and tomatoes are already finding their way onto the supermarket shelves, where customers would usually only find produce from Spain or South America this time of the year. The same goes for British raspberries and strawberries.

British retailer Waitrose officially announced the arrival of it's first British tomatoes yesterday. It is now stocking Jack Hawkins, red Choice and tiny Baby Plum tomatoes that have been grown all over England.

At the same time competitor Morrisons predicted that Britain will see the best crop of asparagus for nearly a decade this spring and an increase of up to twenty per cent compared to season average.
