Hungarian Seafood Product 'Selfish Trout' Wins SIAL D'Or

A Hungarian vacuum-packed seafood product, Selfish Trout, has won the coveted 2012 SIAL D'Or prize for commercially successful innovation.

At a ceremony to coincide with the opening of the SIAL exhibition in Paris on Sunday (21 Oct), judges announced Selfish Trout as the winner of the prestigious, international award. The product, a portion of ready-to-cook fresh fish with herb butter, was launched by PLP Seafood Hungary Ltd last August. Vacuum-packed for freshness, the fish can be cooked in about 10 minutes with no need to open the bag.

Selfish Trout beat eight international finalists from various categories to take the prize. ESM's sister publication for the Irish grocery retail trade, Checkout magazine, was among the 29 publications that formed the judging panel for the coveted awards.
