Jumbo Opens Tenth Home Delivery Hub In Groningen

Dutch retailer Jumbo has opened a new home delivery hub in Groningen today, which is also its tenth central home delivery location in the country.

The new hub will allow for further distribution of groceries ordered via the jumbo.com website or the Jumbo app.

After picking the online orders in the e-fulfilment centre in Raalte, the groceries are delivered to customers in the region via the new hub in Groningen.

The new home delivery hub will boost the retailer's online delivery capacity in the northern part of the country, increasing the number of customers that can be served and offering more delivery slots.

The delivery hub, located at De Hallen 8 in Groningen, is housed in a building with approximately 1900 square metres of floor space.

After the summer, the groceries ordered online will be delivered directly to customers in the province of Groningen and part of the province of Drenthe by 40 delivery vans.

Online customers of Jumbo can expect the same service during delivery as they receive from the stores, and can choose from more and shorter delivery slots than those currently available at stores.

Online Groceries

The new home delivery hub is the retailer's answer to the increasing demand for online groceries as more and more customers discover the benefits of home delivery, especially during lockdown.

In order to be able to match demand for deliveries, Jumbo is opening smaller home delivery locations for its online orders in several places in the Netherlands.

With a central home delivery hub, the capacity can be better utilised and trips can be planned better and result in fewer kilometres travelled by delivery vehicles.

Jumbo currently operates hubs in Amsterdam, 's-Hertogenbosch (at the e-fulfilment centre - EFC), Middelburg, Utrecht, Breda, Heerhugowaard, Bemmel and Hengelo.

At the beginning of 2021, the retailer opened a new EFC in Bleiswijk that also functions as a hub. Jumbo plans to open six new hubs at various locations in the country later this year.
