Lidl Italy Brings Back 'Fan Collection' Sneakers

Lidl Italy is stocking its shelves with much sought-after 'Lidl sneakers' this week, as the iconic shoe makes a come back after selling out all stocks in the country last November.

The launch of the 'Lidl Fan Collection' was met with widespread acclaim from die-hard fans of the retail chain across Europe, prompting its return, the retailer added.

Since they were initially launched as an 'April Fools' prank a couple of years back, Lidl sneakers have become a phenomenon in many European countries, much sought after by collectors and sports enthusiasts.

The sneakers, priced at €12.99, began selling on auction sites such as eBay for as much as €5,000 after their original launch.

On Easter Monday, Lidl Switzerland relaunched the blue, yellow and red sneaker – along with matching sports socks – on a limited-edition basis.

In addition to its 'Lidl Fan Collection', the discounter has also sought to highlight some of the corporate social responsibility measures it is taking with its clothing and footwear ranges.

Its recent 'green' collection includes an underwear line made with SeaCell ™, a fibre obtained from completely biodegradable and zero-emission marine algae, and the new 'Crivit Ocean Bound' shoe collection, made entirely from plastic recycled and recovered from the oceans.
