METRO Cash & Carry Romania has launched a programme, ‘Goodies From Romania’, to support local producers. The wholesaler is developing partnerships with Romanian producers of fish, meat, meat, milk, cheese, fruit and vegetables, bread and bakery products, wine and preserves, with the aim of encouraging consumers to buy Romanian products.
The programme is supported by the nation's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and will see METRO Romania distribute the products throughout its network. It is reported that about 4,000 SKUs of the wholesaler's offering are Romanian.
“We are proud to have been the first commercial market who started this movement," said Anca Vizireanu, director of food buying, METRO Cash & Carry Romania. "I hope that through programmes that develop, we can expand this percentage, with a real impact on local economic development," she added. (16 Nov)
