Nestlé Announces Plan To Adopt Nutri-Score Labelling In Europe

Nestlé has announced that it will introduce Nutri-Score labelling to its products across Europe by the end of 2019.

The move reflects Nestlé's intention to help consumers in making more informed choices, that are in line with European and local health policies, it said.

Marco Settembri, Nestlé's CEO for Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, said, "We want to provide them [customers] with easy-to-understand nutritional information.

"We hope that Nestlé's announcement will help create a broader momentum in favour of Nutri-Score for all countries in continental Europe," he added.

Nutritional Profile

The Nutri-score labelling system is used in continental Europe to classify food and drinks according to their nutritional profile.

The colour-coded system measures products on a scale from A to E, with the former being the healthier choice and latter the least healthy option.

It is a voluntary front-of-pack label, which has been recommended by health authorities in France, Belgium, and Switzerland.

Many European retailers like Spar Belgium and Eroski have already adopted the labelling system for their private-label products.
