Nestlé Inaugurates Gerber Cereal Snacks Plant In China

Nestlé has announced that it has opened its first Gerber NutriPuffs cereal snacks plant in the Shuangcheng District in China.

The food giant has invested around CHF 14 million (€12.7 million) in the state-of-the-art facility that is equipped with fully automated canning and packaging lines imported from the UK, USA, and Switzerland.

The new production line has an annual production capacity of about 1,400 tonnes, Nestlé said in its statement.

'Great Confidence'

Chairman and CEO of Nestlé Greater China, Rashid Qureshi, said, "In the 1980s, Shuangcheng was Nestlé’s first location to invest in China. [...]We’ve witnessed Nestlé's development for more than 30 years here, creating shared value for all stakeholders.

"This new factory represents Nestlé's latest investment in Shuangcheng and demonstrates Nestlé's great confidence and firm commitment to the Chinese market. [...] Nestlé and Shuangcheng have written a positive story of sincere cooperation, and we have every reason to continue such success."

The factory will produce organic and regular Gerber NutriPuffs in eight flavours, the food giant added.

The product will be sold in cans or flexible packaging that are 100% recyclable, in line with Nestlé's commitment to making all its packaging reusable or recyclable by 2025.

In China, Gerber offers a range of baby foods including infant cereal, fruit and vegetable puree, and baby snacks.
