Bord Bia, Ireland’s agricultural food and drink promotional body, has recently launched a sustainability development programme for Ireland’s food and drink industry. 'Origin Green' will assist Ireland’s food and drink industry to become a world leader in high-quality sustainable production and become a top source for international retailers and food service providers who recognise sustainability as a key driver of growth.
Ireland is already on track with many of its sustainability targets and, according to recent research conducted by the EU Commission, Ireland has one of the lowest carbon footprints for dairy and beef production in the EU. Retailers and food manufacturers are looking to suppliers to provide details of the environmental impact associated with their products.
Those who can credibly and proactively benchmark their sustainability performance will be better placed to secure long-term business relationships with these retailers and food manufacturers.
