Portuguese Retailers Bet On Home Delivery Services

Portuguese retailers are offering a range of online solutions for shoppers self-isolating due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Auchan Retail Portugal has launched Despensa à Porta, a service that offers shoppers the chance to select from 400 grocery essentials.

Products on offer include preserves, olive oils, vinegars, wines, rice, pasta, diapers, and pet food, which are all available for home delivery.

Jerónimo Martins

Elsewhere, Jerónimo Martins has ramped up home delivery services for its Amanhecer and Pingo Doce businesses.

The retailer's Amanhecer service is available in 150 neighbourhood stores in 18 districts of mainland Portugal, Madeira and the Azores, or roughly half of the banner’s network.

Pingo Doce, meanwhile, is providing a new takeaway meal ordering service called 'Encomendas Selecção do Chef'.

Orders can be placed via the internet, at Pingo Doce stores and by telephone, with around 30 meal options available, developed by Gonçalo Costa, Pingo Doce's executive chef.

El Corte Inglés

El Corte Inglés, which already has an online shopping service, has launched 'MiniSupermarket', a new service that includes a selection of 300 top-selling SKUs that do not require refrigeration.

This service is delivered free of charge for purchases over €100 euros, or for €6.90 for orders less than that amount.
