Seafood Expo Global and Seafood Processing Global Expand Exhibit Space

Seafood Expo Global and Seafood Processing Global will take place from 7 to 9 May 2019 at the Brussels Expo, in Brussels, Belgium.

This year’s exposition marks the 27th edition of Seafood Expo Global and the 21st edition of Seafood Processing Global. This is the world’s leading seafood trade event, connecting over 29,100 international buyers and suppliers for three days of networking and business opportunities.

Seafood Expo Global features seafood suppliers from all over the globe, who will be presenting their latest seafood products – fresh, frozen, canned, value added, processed and packaged – to seafood buyers, including supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, catering services, importers, distributors, and seafood markets.

Seafood Processing Global, which takes place alongside Seafood Expo Global, provides visitors with every aspect of seafood processing, including packaging materials and equipment, refrigeration and freezing equipment and supplies, primary processing equipment, secondary processing equipment, hygiene control and sanitation, and quality assurance services.

“The 2018 event was a record-setting year for attendance, as well as for the number of exhibiting companies and total exhibit space covered, making it the largest ever in the event’s history,” said Wynter Courmont, event director for Diversified Communications, producer of Seafood Expo Global and Seafood Processing Global. “This year’s edition promises to be even bigger, as we’ve expanded the exhibit space into a new hall.”

New For 2019

This year, Seafood Processing Global will expand and encompass Hall 3 and Hall 4 at the Brussels Expo, with additional seafood-processing companies exhibiting. Hall 8 will now exclusively hold seafood exhibits and will also feature the Seafood Excellence Global stand.

Among this year’s exhibitors, more than 70 national and regional pavilions will showcase their seafood products and equipment, with new pavilion participation this year from Busan Techno Park (a regional exhibitor from Korea). New country participation will include Guyana, Uganda and Tanzania.

Continued Success

Seafood Expo Global and Seafood Processing Global’s success and growth through the years can be attributed to growing trade.

Seafood and seafood products are some of the most traded food items in the world today, according to a recent report by the FAO (State of World Fisheries & Aquaculture). Some 60 million tonnes (live-weight equivalent) of total fish and fish products were exported in 2016, representing a 245% increase since 1976.

During the same period, world trade in fish and fish products also grew significantly, with exports rising from $8 billion in 1976 to $143 billion in 2016.

The success and growth of the event can also be attributed to the growing popularity of seafood worldwide. In per-capita terms, food fish consumption has grown from nine kilograms per person in 1961 to 20.2 kilograms per person in 2015, at an average rate increase of about 1.5 per cent per year.

World fish consumption in 2030 is projected to be 20 per cent higher than in 2016, the report states.

Seafood Excellence Global Awards

On the evening of Tuesday 7 May, Diversified Communications will host the Seafood Excellence Global awards reception, where the winners of the Best Retail Product and the Best Hotel/Restaurant/Catering (HORECA) Product will be announced.
