Tegut's LandPrimus Quality Meat Programme 'On Course For Success'

German retailer Tegut has announced that meat products from its LandPrimus programme have been well received by consumers.

Pork sales are generally declining in Germany, but demand for LandPrimus pork products have been developing favourably for several years, against the general market trend, according to Tegut purchasing division manager Christian Leuthner.

Last week, Tegut held an annual exchange event in Fulda, which served as a platform for sharing ideas between the German retailer and all farmers involved in the LandPrimus programme who supply pork.

Tegut said that it is important for both parties to be up to speed on subjects like marketing, products, and animal husbandry, as well as the latest legal framework conditions.

Quality And Transparency

"Consumers appreciate both quality and transparency, as well as [a] focus on animal welfare," said Leuthner. "With regard to the LandPrimus products, our customers can see those values."

From breeding to the point of slaughtering, the LandPrimus programme for pork mainly takes place in Vogelsberg and the Rhoen region.

Tastings for LandPrimus products including chicken, veal and beef have been very well received at Tegut markets.

As well as best-selling products like ham, wiener, goulash and pork fillets from the LandPrimus pork programme, a variety of gammon steaks will also be introduced in the coming weeks.

Tegut said that it is very important to have close personal contact and to operate a fair, cooperative partnership with its farmers.

As well as the VLOG GMO-free certificate that all LandPrimus products carry, the German retailer is the first supermarket to use flat-skin packaging at self-service counters. This packaging is 100% recyclable.
