X5 Retail Group Enters Kaliningrad With Five New Stores

Russia’s X5 Retail Group has announced that it has launched operations in the Kaliningrad region with five new store openings.

The new stores will operate under the Pyaterochka banner, with nearly half of the sales area dedicated to fresh produce.

It will also offer a wide range of to-go and ready-to-eat food items from different brands including the locally produced Naturovo label.

The in-store bakery, located at the centre of the sales floor, will offer an assortment of approximately 100 varieties of freshly baked bread and pastries on a daily basis.

Customers can also buy coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice from the coffee zone adjacent to the bakery section.

Convenient Shopping Experience

The store design ensures that customers have a convenient shopping experience, without having to wander through the entire shopping floor to access things that they require.

General director of Pyaterochka, Sergey Goncharov, commented, "Over 13 million Russians already trust us when they come to Pyaterochka stores daily. Our mission is to deepen our guests' trust by offering them fresh and high-quality products at low prices, continuously improving our services, and becoming a leader in both convenience and community care. Now people in Kaliningrad can also appreciate all these benefits.”

Store Details

The retailer has opened three of the new stores in the Kaliningrad metropolitan area, and one each in Zelenogradsk and Chernyakhovsk.

The combined area of the five new stores, which has created more than 90 jobs, is over 3,000 square metres.

Each store offers between 4,700 to 5,800 SKUs, including locally produced brands such as Baltptitseprom, Za Rodinu, Green Line, MK Baltika and others.

Around 40% of the total assortment is locally produced, including 60% of the ‘fresh’ category, and nearly 100% of fruit and vegetables, the retailer added.

Goncharov added, “We started to proactively work with local producers, and thanks to their direct deliveries to our stores we offer our guests great-tasting, fresh and high-quality foods.”

The retail chain plans to open 10 more stores in the region by the end of the year, which will create about 210 new jobs for local residents.
