German brewery Alpirsbacher Klosterbräu's beer has been voted the world's best pilsner.
102 master brewers, beer sommeliers and journalists awarded Alpirsbacher Klosterbräu the gold medal in the highly competitive “German Style Pilsener” category in a blind tasting.
The award is not the first accolade for Baden-Wuettemberg-based Alpirsbacher: in 2010, the monastery-based brewery won the World Beer Award in the same category. Its Alpirsbacher Weizen 'Isotonisch' was voted best non-alcohol wheat beer in last year’s competition.
The brewery’s CEO, Markus Schlör, knows every award is followed by certain responsibilities: “For us, this is a motivation as well as an obligation to continue to produce premium beers with high-quality raw materials.”
“This triumph shows that Alpirsbacher Pils is one of the best beers in the world and that the success of 2010 was no coincidence”, Alpirsbacher owner Carl Glauner said of the new accolade.
Alpirsbacher employs over 80 people and has recently generated a turnover of € 21 million with an annual production of 180,000 hectolitres. The brewery owns springs in a Black Forest nature reserve.
