Serbia's Gomex Plans To Open 27 New Stores In 2017

Serbian grocery retailer Gomex has reported turnover of €83 million for full year 2016, up 9% on the previous year (€76 million).

Net profit at the group fell €700,000, mainly due to increased salaries, while capex reached a record high of €5.14 million.

Gomex currently has 141 stores in neighbourhood format (comprising a total of 27,160 square metres), mostly in the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina, and 1,500 employees.

Last year, 24 new stores were opened while 25 were refurbished.

According to the chief executive of Gomex, Dragan Ranisavljević, the group's plan for 2017 includes the opening of 25 new stores in Belgrade and Central Serbia, with the group aiming to become a national retail chain.

Ranisavljević added that 80% of sales are achieved via the customer loyalty card scheme Kasica Brojalica that has 250,000 users.
