Waitrose Unveils ‘Banana And Bacon Trifle’ From Chef Heston Blumenthal

UK retailer Waitrose has teamed up with chef Heston Blumenthal to produce a Banana and Bacon Trifle for the Christmas market.

The Heston from Waitrose Banana and Bacon Trifle goes on sale this week, and is described as a ‘rich, decadent trifle with layers of banana, caramel, chocolate and rum […] topped with smoky bacon bits’.

“We’ve loved working with Heston to create a truly special trifle with a real sense of humour,” said Aileen Wood, Waitrose Dessert Buyer. “His range of products at Waitrose often works with classic dishes he loved as a child, and this trifle is no exception. The bacon twist works incredibly well with the rest of the ingredients and fits perfectly into Heston’s innovative range of Christmas sweet treats.”

The retailer said that sales of ‘retro desserts’ such as trifle are up 34% compared to last year, while other family favourites such as profiteroles have undergone a makeover.

The trifle will initially launch in Waitrose shops as part of a meal deal, where it will be available in two packs of mini trifles, priced at £3.99.
