ICA Sees Organic Produce Sales Jump

Swedish retailer ICA has reported solid growth in sales of organic products in 2012, underpinned by growth in its organic private label range and in sales of organic fruit and vegetables. Organic produce generated revenues of €2 billion for the retailer last year and the Ahold-affiliated retailer saw a 10 per cent increase in sales of its own brand organic 'ICA I love eco' range.

Organic fruit and vegetable sales rose by 13 per cent, with sales of organic meat (13 per cent), eggs (6 per cent) and coffee (4 per cent) also showing growth.

ICA expanded its 1,000-strong organic product range by 0.3 per cent and will continue to focus on the category.

The group recently announced its full-year sales results, displaying an increase of 1.8 per cent, to SEK 96,863 million. At constant exchange rates, net sales increased by 2 per cent. (30 Jan)
