  • Fruits de Ponent has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by participating in the presentation of the Spanish Network for the Global Compact, held at Fruit Attraction.

The Network promotes the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda in the agri-food sector.

The presentation took place at the stand of Fruits de Ponent, a signatory of the Network since 2012.

The event witnessed the presence of Vanesa Rodríguez, director of communication of the Global Compact; Raúl Calleja, director of Fruit Attraction; Josep Presseguer, CEO of Fruits de Ponent; Nuria Asesio, CEO of ActivH2O; and Juan Francisco Báñez, CEO of Cuna de Platero.

The covenant is a United Nations instrument that was announced in 1999 by the then secretary-general, the late Kofi Annan, at the Davos Forum.

It has more than 13,000 signatory entities in more than 170 countries, and represents the largest initiative of its kind in the world.

The Sustainable Development Goals are a result of an agreement reached by the member states of the UN and comprise, among others, a declaration and 17 sustainable development goals.

Some of the goals include the eradication of poverty; ending hunger; ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education; gender equality; promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialisation; and strengthening partnerships to achieve these sustainable development goals.

Commenting on strengthening partnerships, the CEO of Fruits de Ponent, Josep Presseguer, said it was a global challenge "for all operators" and not just for those who do not have administrations.

Member states have agreed to attempt to achieve these goals by 2030.
