Italy’s Parmigiano Reggiano Dominates World Cheese Awards

Parmigiano Reggiano has been acknowledged as the most prized DOP cheese in the world, at the annual World Cheese Awards.

A recent marketing strategy by 40 Parmigiano Reggiano cheesemakers to team up and participate in the competition together proved to be an excellent move, with Parmigiano Reggiano winning a record 38 medals at the event (11 gold, 16 silver and 8 bronze).

The most prestigious awards, the three 'Supergold' honours, were awarded to the cheese factories San Pietro di Valestra (Reggio Emilia), 4 Madonna (Modena) and La Traversetolese (Parma).

This year’s World Cheese Awards were held in London and counted with the participation of more than 3,000 cheeses from over 30 countries and 250 experts, including international buyers, traders, journalists and cheese makers.
