JTI Signs Deal With Italian Ministry Of Agriculture

A new four-year agreement between the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and Japan Tobacco International will see the tobacco firm invest €160 million in Italy from 2017 to 2020.

Over the past ten years, JTI has invested €460 million in its Italian operations, employing over 1,700 people.

Since 2012, it has held an agreement with TTI Consortium (Trasformatori Tabacco Italia) to support the commercial sector.

“Our agreement means a significant financial commitment toward the purchase of Italian leaf over the next four years,” said Vassilis Vovos, JTI Western Europe President.

“It reflects our support to the many growers and workers who represent an important activity in Italy, and to a tobacco leaf which has always met our worldwide quality standards.”
