Nestlé Fights Food Waste At Global Level

Nestlé is taking a key role in the development of the first global standard helping governments and companies reduce food loss and waste, the company has announced.

The Food Loss and Waste Accounting and Reporting Standard, developed by the multi-stakeholder Food Loss and Waste Protocol, was launched at this year’s 3GF Global Green Growth Forum in Copenhagen.

Nestlé is a chief member of the Consumer Goods Forum along with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the World Resources Institute.

Nestlé CEO Paul Bulcke is a member of a new coalition called Champions 12.3, which aims to accelerate progress on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Target 12.3 on food waste.

Nestlé proposes zero waste for disposal at all sites in a bid for environmental sustainability.

Food loss and waste costs $940 billion to the global economy per annum, and causes approximately 8% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.
