Nestlé To Expand Hungarian Pet-Food Facility

Nestlé has announced plans to make its biggest investment to date in its pet-food factory in Bük, Hungary, with a view to making the facility the company’s largest and most important pet-food production centre in Europe.

According to World-Grain.com, Nestlé Hungária will invest over HUF 20 billion (approximately €64 million) in the development project – its largest food-processing industry investment in Hungary to date.

The planned Bük site extension includes two new production lines, with four fillers and a multipack packaging unit, which are expected to be operational by the end of 2017.

A new 5,000-square-metre production hall, with an output capacity of 1.6 million products per day, is also planned.

The investment will make the Bük facility the largest and most significant pet-food production centre for Nestlé in Europe.

Currently, about 90 per cent of the pet food produced in the Bük facilities is exported, and once the investment is complete, the UK is expected to take over from Germany as the facility's primary export destination, importing 35 per cent of its products.

However, Germany, Austria and Switzerland will remain important markets for Nestlé's pet-food operation, collectively receiving 40 per cent of the products from Bük.
