Albert Heijn Launches New Delivery Service For Small Households

Dutch retailer Albert Heijn has announced the launch of AH Compact - a new, free delivery service for small households.

The service can be accessed by downloading the new AH Compact app, available on Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

It offers an assortment of nearly 5,000 daily essentials, including fresh produce, private-label products, and other affordable grocery items.

The AH Compact service requires a minimum order value of €35, the retailer added.

Customers can choose from eight delivery slots, which include six in the evenings and two in the mornings.

The new delivery service aims to cater to the needs of one and two-person households, which is a fast-growing market.

Focus On Small Households

Marit van Egmond, CEO of Albert Heijn, explained, “We want to be there for our customers always and everywhere, with our stores and online. Families with children and companies, in particular, have frequently ordered online in recent years.

“However, we saw an increasing interest in small households - young and old. We have now developed AH Compact for this. Simple ordering via a separate app, without delivery costs.”

Initially, AH Compact will available to customers in the city of Haarlem in the Netherlands.

The company added that the decision to expand the service to other cities would be based on customer interest.

New Home Shop Centre

Albert Heijn has opened its seventh home shop centre (HSC) in Bleiswijk, which will process 40,000 orders per week.

The new, hypermodern 20,000 square metre HSC will create around 1,000 new jobs, the retailer added.

The retailer plans to open new HSCs in Amsterdam in November and Oosterhout in August.
