Carrefour Poland Launches Initiative To Prevent Food Waste

Carrefour Poland customers can find everyday items with short shelf lives at reduced prices in hypermarkets and supermarkets across the country, thanks to the retailer's new 'Stop Marnotrawstwu' (Stop Waste) initiative.

The retailer will offer reductions of up to 90% in the special zones in stores dedicated to the initiative.

Food Waste

Poland ranks fifth in terms of food waste among all European countries, and research shows that every month food worth PLN50 per person ends up in the trash.

Carrefour Poland's new initiative aims to prevent this by offering a discount on goods that must be consumed almost immediately.

Barbara Kowalska, director of quality and sustainable development department at Carrefour Poland, said that the initiative is widespread across the entire company structure, with Carrefour contacting "suppliers and customers with this idea."

As part of the 'Stop Marnotrawstwu' initiative, Carrefour Poland has also placed information regarding food waste prevention in stores across the country along with practical tips on storing food products to keep them fresh.

Marek Lipka, commercial director of Carrefour Polska, hopes that the campaign will allow customers to "spend less while shopping" and reduce food waste.
