Mars Ireland Recalls Selected Drinks Over Contamination Fears

Mars has recalled a number of its sports-cap milk drink products, manufactured by Milchwerke Mittelelbe GMBH, due to “elevated levels” of bacteria that can cause food poisoning. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) advise against consuming any of the drink products due to the possible health risk.

Mars said the recall is due to “the presence of a bacterium known as Bacillus that may be present in some of the product. We advise anyone who has purchased any of the […] branded drink products [… ] not to consume it and to contact our consumer care team. Mars and our suppliers take quality and food safety very seriously and apologise for any inconvenience.”

The full list of recalled products are: Starburst Strawberry Drink (350 ml), Skittles Drink (350 ml), Galaxy Smooth Milk (350ml), Milky Way Milk (350 ml), Mars Milk (350ml). The products have best before dates from December 19 2014 to April 11, 2015. The FSAI said that no other Mars Drinks are known to be affected.
