Nestlé Battle With Former Employee

A former Nestlé executive has launched a rival tea-making system to Swiss food group Nestlé’s own recently launched product. Eric Favre, Nespresso’s founding chief executive, has entered the market with his Tpresso model, similar to the Special T tea-making system launched by Nestlé last year. With Special T designed to do for tea what Nespresso has done for premium coffee, Favre has courted controversy by describing Tpresso as "the Nespresso of tea".

The first of the tea-making machines will go on sale in China this April. In 2012, the system will be introduced to other Asian markets and possibly within Europe following that.

The Tpresso will be sold in China for Rmb5,000 (€569). Nestlé’s T system was launched initially in France with a price tag of €129, and a 10 capsule pack costing an additional €3.50. (19 Jan)© 2011 - ESM: European Supermarket Magazine
