San Miguel Takes Control Of India's Arian Breweries

The world-famous Spanish brewer San Miguel has established its very first international subsidiary with the complete takeover of India's Arian Breweries & Distilleries.

The company has held a 50% stake in the family-owned Arian Breweries since 2012, and the company says that the full acquisition for an undisclosed sum marks the brewer's strategy to expand into international markets.

Upon the establishment of that JV, Mahou-San Miguel also set up an International Business Unit under the directorship of John Stordy in the hope of promoting an area which has doubled in sales over the past few years.

"It's been two exciting years that, together with our partner, we have learned much about the consumer and the Indian market," says Alberto Rodriguez-Toquero, Mahou-San Miguel's director general.

“We now have the knowledge and experience to take a further step and assume full control of the development of our business in India. Overseas operations will be our main growth lever over the coming years.”

The Indian brewery, located in Bhiwadi (Rajasthan State), covers 64,125 square metres and has an output capacity of 250,000 hectolitres per year.

Mahou San Miguel currently has a presence within five Indian states through its local brand Dare Devil and flagship Brand Mahou.
