SpiritsEUROPE Welcomes EU-US Tariffs Suspension Over Aircraft Dispute
SpiritsEUROPE, which represents producers of alcoholic spirits at the EU level, has welcomed the suspension of tariffs on exports by the European Union and the United States.
The US and the EU have agreed to suspend tariffs of exports for four months and focus on resolving the dispute over aircrafts.
Commenting on the suspension, Ulrich Adam, director general of spiritsEUROPE, stated, "This is a hugely positive development and a crucial step towards a final and permanent resolution of this long-standing dispute.
"We would like to congratulate the EU and the US for reaching this milestone agreement, which also extends to many unrelated sectors, including various European spirits."
'A Huge Alleviation'
Adam added that the step is "a huge alleviation for all producers of those European spirits that were negatively affected by tariffs in the past sixteen months and whose exports have fallen drastically as a result," impacting jobs and growth amidst a challenging market situation due to the COVID-19 crisis.
"We hope that both the EU and the US will now be able to find a final and permanent resolution to the Airbus-Boeing dispute as well as also resolve the steel and aluminium dispute which still hurts US whiskey exports to the EU," Adam concluded.
The United States has also agreed on a four-month suspension of retaliatory tariffs imposed on British goods such as Scotch whiskey.
