Tesco UK's Massive Wine Clear-Out

Tesco in the UK is undergoing a massive wine clear-out entailing discounts of up to 64 per cent.

The sale started yesterday and will run until midnight on Tuesday 2 September, with all the discounted lines available to purchase via Tesco’s website, Wine by the Case.

The retailer has stated that the sale has been effected "in preparation for Christmas".

Some of the most attractive cases available include 2008 Château Camensac, Haut-Medoc which is reduced by 46 per cent from £179.94 to £96.48 (equivalent to £16.08/bottle); Chapel Hill’s 2010 McLaren Vale Grenache, which is down by 43 per cent, from £107.94 to £61.86 per case (equivalent to £10.31 per bottle) and the 1998 Château Grand Pontet, which was £240.00 per case and is now available for £149.28 (£24.88 per bottle), a reduction of 28 per cent.

There is also Taittinger Brut Vintage 2004 available for just over £28 a bottle, and the Domaine FL Savennieres "Roche aux Moines" 2007 for £24, as well as the Loimer Seeberg Riesling 2010 for a little under £19, and the Henriques & Henriques 20 year-old Terrantez Madeira for just south of £20 for a 75cl bottle.

In related news, the Reading-West branch of Tesco emptied aisles ordinarily reserved for vegetables and stocked them with alcoholic products before the booze-fuelled Reading Festival last weekend. An estimated 250,000 people passed through Reading to see headliners including Arctic Monkeys and Queens of the Stone Age.
