Carrefour Poland Says Eco Solutions Now Present In 80% Of Stores

Carrefour's Polish operation has said that ecological solutions such as environmentally friendly refrigeration, LED lighting and geothermal energy programmes are now present in 80% of its stores.

Carrefour Polska said that close to 80% of its stores have installed LED lighting, which has enabled energy reduction of 20%-30%, with a further 29 store installations set to be completed by the end of the year.

In 38 of the group's stores, refrigeration systems that use carbon dioxide as a refrigerant have been installed, again reducing the energy required for cooling by 30%-40% on average.

Geothermal installations, meanwhile, have been implemented in five outlets: Sosnowiec, Zamość, Olsztyn, Gdańsk and Warsaw. These stores have been able to optimise energy consumption by close to 40%.

Sustainable Approach

Other measures being employed by the group include the installation of modern ventilation systems and solar panels on the roofs of selected hypermarkets.

Carrefour Group, as a whole, has committed to reducing CO2 emissions by 40% by 2025 and by 70% by 2050, compared to 2010 levels.

Carrefour boasts around 900 stores in Poland, including hypermarkets, supermarkets, convenience and specialist stores. It also owns and operates 20 shopping centres and around 40 petrol stations.
