Aldi Süd Unveils 'Meine Backwelt' Bakery Section

German discounter Aldi Süd has launched a new in-store self-service bakery section, ‘Meine Backwelt’.

With up to 40 bread and pastry products baked freshly in store, the new section is set to be rolled out to all Aldi Süd branches over the next few years, according to the retailer.

The launch of the bakery and pastries section is the result of extensive testing conducted by the retailer over the past three years, according to Aldi Süd.

The new concept will offer a generous display, high-quality design elements and warm lighting, which all align with Aldi’s focus on store modernisation.

"The bread and baked-goods sector has developed into an important product range at Aldi Süd over the past few years,” said Lars Klein, deputy managing director of central purchasing with responsibility for the fresh-produce sector.

Wide Selection

The new section will host a variety of bread and rolls, as well as convenience products, such as pizza snacks, poultry rolls and cheese twisters. In addition, sweet-toothed customers will be able to choose from pastries such as nut-nougat croissants, Milka muffins and chocolate rolls, according to Aldi Süd.

The retailer added that it plans to implement an option for customers to cut their own freshly baked bread on site using bread-cutting machines.

“With ‘Meine Backwelt’, we are responding to our customers' requests for a wide range of bakery products, whose freshness can now be experienced by looking into the baking chamber,” Klein continued. “The open display of the products ensures greater transparency.”

The retailer is revamping its stores over the next couple of years to have a warmer feel, with a modern decor, while making shopping easier, it said.
