Bread Consumption Drops By 2.5% In Spain

The latest report by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment of Spain has revealed that bread consumption in the country decreased by 2.5 per cent in 2015, compared to the previous year.

However, bread purchases still account for an important part of Spanish consumers' food-and-beverage budgets – approximately 5.64 per cent, which represents €84.78 per capita a year and a total of 35.15 kilos per person.

According to GondolaDigital.com, the biggest bread buyers are retired people (22.5 per cent), followed by households with children (19.3 per cent) and families with adult sons (15.3 per cent).

The regions where bread consumption is highest are La Rioja (45.18 kilos per capita), Galicia (43.85) and Navarra (43.04).

On average, Spanish people consume less fibre than the recommended 25 grams a day, studies have found.
