Carrefour Belgium Partners With Pork Supplier Westvers

Carrefour Belgium has announced that it has entered into a partnership with pork supplier Westvers, to improve the traceability and quality of its products.

Blockchain Mapping

The collaboration will result in the implementation of blockchain technology in Westvers’ meat supply chain.

It will allow consumers to learn about the origin of the meat, and its journey from the farm to the supermarket shelves by scanning a QR code on the packaging.

The partnership between Carrefour and Westvers will also see the implementation of blockchain to other products, the company reported.

Centralisation Of Production

Carrefour also aims to cut CO2 emissions by centralising all of Westvers’ operations into a single workshop.

The move will also enable the retailer to invest in new packaging technologies, which will help in meeting its sustainability goals.

Organic Meat

The demand for organic meat has doubled in the past ten years in Belgium, and the retailer will also direct efforts at addressing this demand by focusing on small producers.

Westvers sources meat from small, local producers who are supported by Carrefour.
