Morrisons Reports Jump In Sales Of Wonky Veg Ahead Of Christmas

UK supermarket Morrisons has announced a jump in sales of wonky vegetables, including Brussels sprouts, ahead of the festive season.

Morrisons added misshapen carrots, parsnips, onions and potatoes to its shelves in a selection of its supermarkets in Yorkshire and the north-east region.

The fresh produce comes under the irregular category, as it may have split, is smaller or larger than usual, or is of an unusual shape.

As part of the grocer's waste-reduction initiative, the produce is priced around a third lower than its regular-shaped vegetables.

According to Morrisons, the north-east and Yorkshire have many stores in the area, with the retailer checking the produce at its head office in Bradford.

Earlier this month, Morrisons returned to the convenience shopping market with the opening of its new Morrisons Daily store in Cheshire.
