Organic Food Market In France Worth €5.75 Billion: l’Agence Bio

France’s Agence Bio has revealed that the value of organic foodstuffs in the country has reached €5.75 billion, after a 14.7-per-cent like-for-like increase over the past year.

Figures supplied by the body, which is dedicated to the promotion of organic food in France, shows that one-fifth of eggs sold in the country are now organic, as is 12 per cent of milk. A real driver of the growth over the past 12 months, however, has been fresh produce (+24 per cent).

The amount of farmland dedicated to the cultivation of organic goods is up by 23.1 per cent, to 1,375,328 hectares, reflecting the rapidly growing demand in supermarkets for such produce.

This has placed just over five per cent of French agricultural land within the organic remit.
